I take a mind-body approach to addressing your emotional health and whole-body wellness.
Life is filled with obstacles, and it’s impossible to come out unscarred. The wounds on our physical bodies, those experienced when our puppy scratches us, we bump and bruise our knee, or fall and break a limb, are outwardly visible and observable in the healing process. However mental health can be more complex. Psychological trauma, though not as easily observable to the eye, can remain locked dormant in the body – the brain, the nervous system – for a lifetime unless addressed.
Since our past is held in our body, not just our mind, it’s necessary to address the two. Mindfulness practices such as meditation, breathwork, somatic sensing, and yoga are ways to strengthen and actually rewire the brain and release residual tension from the nervous system. In addition to talking, these are are the practices we will choose from in our work together.
Here’s the Breakdown:
- talking and processing the past and/or present
- learning new skills
- planning for the future
- somatically sensing into the body
- managing the breath
- moving a bit, when useful
It is the lack of integration of the mind-body-spirit continuum that creates disease and dysfunction. When the mind, body, and spirit are an integrated whole, we are happy, at peace within our bodies, fulfilled in our relationships, and in optimal overall health. Together, we will get you to a place of full integration and living the life you’ve dreamt of and deserve.
The issues live in the tissues.
